Martina Junge

Martina Junge was appointed as Executive Secretary of the EMS in January 2006.

Her main role is to coordinate all EMS activities and support the EMS Bureau and Council, the committees and project teams in their initiatives and projects, with the preparation and coordination of the Annual Meeting programmes being a major part of this.

She is responsible for the day-to-day running of the association together with the Assistant, manages the EMS office, handles the communication with partner organisations and promotes the actitivies of the EMS and its Members organisations through the EMS website and other outreach channels.

Before joining the EMS, Martina was a research scientist at the Meteorology Department at the University of Hamburg, working on decadal climate variability in the North Atlantic. She graduated in math from the University of Stuttgart and holds a PhD in physical oceanography. After PostDoc positions at the Universities of Oxford and Reading in the UK, and at the Instituto Nazional di Geofisica e Vulcanologia in Bologna she returned to Hamburg in 2004.

Martina also holds a Diploma in Translation from the Chartered Institute of Linguists in London, UK.
